James H. Bailey Naples, FL

James H. Bailey, known to everyone as "Hal", 81, formerly of Shrewsbury, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 25, 2011 in Naples, where he resided with his wife of 61 years, Catherine A. Bailey.

James was born on February 5, 1930 in Framingham, MA. He graduated from Framingham High School with honors and received scholarships to attend Worcester Art School.

After graduating art school he served four years in the Korean War as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

James was employed by Woodbury and Company of Worcester, MA for 41 years as a commercial artist and Art Director until he retired. Some of his work included the inaugural invitations for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr., First Day of Issue Covers through the Washington Press (one of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, signed by Jacqueline Kennedy), The Historic Landmark Calendar Series for Samuel Cabot Paints of Boston, MA, and the creation of commercial logos for various companies including Northeastern University where he attended night classes.

He leaves his daughter, Sharon R. Dolan of Sterling, MA; his son, Robert H. Bailey of Naples, FL and five grandchildren, Jason T. Dolan of Waltham, MA, Stacey L. Dolan of Sterling, MA, Jessica L. Dolan of Sterling, MA who is expecting James first great grandchild, Amanda K. Bailey of Orlando, FL and Christian J. Bailey of Naples, FL.

He is also survived by his sister in law Freda R. Boudas of Naples and many caring friends in Massachusetts and Naples.

James was predeceased by his mother, Daisy Langlois Bailey of Webster, MA; his father George Harold Bailey of Dudley, MA; and his sister, Constance Roebuck of Framingham, MA.

James was a family man who loved gardening, golfing, philately, painting, bridge-playing, sports, Bible study and spending time with family and friends.

James painted many portraits including the founder of Heberts Candy Mansion, of Shrewsbury, MA.

A small Memorial Service will be held at New Hope Ministries, 7675 Davis Blvd, Naples, FL 34104 on Friday, December 30th at 2:00 p.m.

His family heartfully wishes to thank Avow Hospice for their professional, compassionate, wonderful care and Dr. Farhad Irani and his staff for their expert care going above and beyond.
