James Williams Obituary

James E. Williams Jr
Naples, FL

James E. Williams Jr. passed away peacefully on March 4, 2010 in Naples, FL. He was 77 years old. He leaves behind his wife, Diane, to whom he was married for 53 years and was the father of four children, Jamie Williams (Sandra) of Naples, FL, Susan Blust (Mark) of Ft. Myers, FL, Carrie Williams of Naples, and John Williams (Belynda) of Naples. He also has 12 grandchildren, Amber, Dylan, Alexandria, Samantha, Landen, Will, J.R., Robbie, Maggie, Jared, Shane and Gracen; and two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Jace.

James served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. James was a successful Florida farmer of vegetables, citrus and cattle. He was one of the last independent farmers in Immokalee upon his retiring in 2005. He served as a Director of Florida Community Bank, a Board Member for the Big Cypress Basin, Board Member for the Immokalee Water and Sewer District and a Member of the Florida Cattleman's Association. James was recognized by the Naples Jaycees for exceptional progress in agriculture and contributions to the community and by the Immokalee Chamber of Commerce in recognition and significant contribution in the agricultural community for the Immokalee area. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and had a passion for helicopters.

He always loved to watch football and was a standout football player at Wauchula High School and in the Army was recruited by LSU to play football but turned down the scholarship to return home to begin his life long journey in farming.

James was always a man who believed in helping others in need and always felt that what you give to others comes back to you in life. His life motto could be summed up as, "hope for the best, but prepare for the worst."

It was a pleasure and priviledge to take care of James at the Aristocrat. I'm happy to have been his "buddy" and he mine.

Losing James will leave a big void in our community and in our lives. I feel lucky to have known him and always enjoyed the time we spent together, especially out in the woods that he loved so much. It was easy to see how much he loved all of his family and relished having them around. We will miss him.
