Joan Hollister Farson Naples, FL
Joan Hollister Farson passed away peacefully on August 22, 2014 in Naples, FL following an extended illness. She was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1929 to her parents, the late Robert and Ellenor Hollister. After graduating from high school, she attended Stanford University and graduated from Marietta College in Ohio with a degree in Accounting.
She was the mother of three grown children, Robin Farson Hammer (Mark Hammer), Matthew Seth Hollister Farson (Janine Farson), and Jeffrey Andrew Farson; and the stepmother of Kristin Deborah Farson and Gregory Kyle Towne Farson.
Joan is also survived by seven grandchildren, Rebecca Farson, Jordan Farson (currently serving in Afghanistan), Robert Hammer, Abigail Farson, Avery Farson, Brooke Hammer, and Matthew Hammer.
Married in 1962 to the late Robert Henry Farson, former NBC radio anchor, Penn State journalism professor and historical author, they resided in Somerville, NJ, State College, PA, Yarmouth Port, MA, and most recently Naples, FL.
While living in State College, along with raising her children and stepchildren, Joan worked as a Supervising Accountant for Unico Corporation. In addition, she served as president of the Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens.
After retiring to Cape Cod with her husband, she was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth, Yarmouth Art Guild, Garden Club (president) and AAUW. Joan was an avid gardener and accomplished painter of watercolors, even traveling to Provence, France to enhance her scope as an artist. She shared this love of beauty and the arts with her grandchildren.
During her retirement, Joan assisted her husband in formatting three successful books on the history of Cape Cod. While in Naples, she served as treasurer of the homeowners association at Navarra Club and was the Women's Ministry Treasurer at Moorings Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed playing mah jong and bridge with friends.
Joan will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Memorial Services will be held at Moorings Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. in Naples, FL.
Burial will be held in Cape Cod, MA at a future date yet to be determined.

I have fond memories of Joan when we lived in the sorority house at Marietta College in 1950. (I have several photos in my album.) My deepest sympathy is with all of her family and friends.
