Michael J. Fleming Naples, FL McLean, VA
Michael J. Fleming passed away on August 19, 2014, at his home in McLean, VA. Born in Des Moines, IA, on October 6, 1938, he spent much of his time after retirement in Naples, FL.
Mike served as President of the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association from 1979, when he established the Association's headquarters in Washington, DC, until his retirement in 2006. During his tenure, he transformed the Association into the leading professional trade association representing the U.S. equipment finance sector. Prior to serving as ELFA President, Mike managed state associations in Iowa and South Carolina. Most recently, he served as Senior Managing Director of Client Relations for the Alta Group.
Mike earned a B.A. in political science and history and an M.A. in history and economics with honors from Drake University in Des Moines, IA. He did additional postgraduate work at other major universities.
An active member of several professional and economic groups, he was past Chancellor of the Exchequer Club of Washington and an active member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Committee of 100. In Naples, he was a member of Class XI of Greater Naples Leadership and served as a GNL Director. He was also a volunteer at the Naples Train Museum, a tutor for Take Stock in Children, and a member of the Board for Baby Basics.
For all his professional accomplishments, Mike will be best remembered as the generous and kind man that he was - one whose passions were golf, trains, music, sweets, and his beloved Ravens. However, his greatest legacy will always be his devotion to his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ginny; his three sons, Steven (Karen), David (Karen), and Michael (Heather); his daughter, Colleen (Max); and his four grandchildren, Andrew, Luke, Lauren, and Liam.
A Naples memorial service celebrating Mike's life is tentatively scheduled for October, 2014.
The family would appreciate donations to Capital Caring Hospice, 4715 15th Street North, Arlington, VA 22205.

Mike's departure has left a large hole in all of the hearts in the family; he was such a great guy! It was a privilege to know him all these years and to be able to call him Cousin. I hope they have trains in heaven. Rest in peace, Mike! Love, Nancy Patch
