Perry Lee Mathes

1954 - 2021

Perry Lee Mathes, age 67, passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 15, 2021. Perry was born in Renton, WA on June 26, 1954 and was the son of Betty (Russell) Till and Delmar "Del" Till. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Esther "Essie" Winters (Mathes) and nephew Michael Ruff. Perry served in the United States Army from 1974 to 1982 as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, LRRP Sergeant, and Biomedical Equipment Technician. He then became a Biomedical Engineer for General Electric where he worked until his retirement in 2005. He then went back to serve his country by continuing his work as a Biomedical Engineer at the VA Hospital in San Diego, CA until 2016 where he retired in Naples, FL. Perry was known for his many stories from his days in the Army and with GE. He loved sharing his knowledge and experiences with loved ones, including his love for great food, drinks, fishing, hunting, and traveling.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Mathes (Watson); his three daughters, Amanda Mathes Barton (Grant), Heather Mathes Ayers (Jake), and Elizabeth Mathes DePasquale (Mike); two grandchildren; Giovanni and Isabella; his brother, Ronald Mathes; sisters, Marguerite Mathes and Mary Crisanto; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Fuller Funeral Home, 4735 Tamiami Trail East in Naples on Sunday, August 22, 2021 from 1pm-3pm. An inurnment will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA in the fall of 2022. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation.
