Richard (Dick) William Bensman, of Perrysburg, OH and Marco Island, FL, passed away in Naples, FL on Sunday, January 25, 2015. He was 84.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Katherine (Kay); son, Richard (Rick); daughter, Laura; daughter-in-law, Holley; grandchildren, Lauren, Alexander (Alex), Whitney and Michael; sister, Suzanne Green; brother, David (m. Rose).

He is preceded in death by his mother, Neita and father, William. His loss leaves an unimaginable hole in our family.

A Florida reception will be held on Marco Island, at Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home, Elkcam Circle, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31st.

A Toledo area memorial service is being planned for early June. Announcements forthcoming.

His preference was for simplicity when it came to notices of this kind, and that shall be honored here. Suffice it to say, he was an accomplished and gifted man thanks to his innate intelligence, strong family support and the Toledo area education system, including: Waite High School and the University of Toledo, where he graduated with honors in Electrical Engineering. He later applied his gifts to a career as a Research Engineer at Champion Spark Plug Company.

His long-time association with (and support of) UT and the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity was a source of enormous pride, leading to the creation of the 'Dick & Kay Bensman Scholarship for Sigma Phi Epsilon'. The scholarship assists juniors and seniors of the UT chapter -who graduated from public high schools- defray tuition costs.
