Ruby Smith Obituary

Ruby Lee Smith

Naples, FL

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother: Ruby Lee Smith on August 18, 2017 in Naples, Florida. Her death follows our father's, Isam Smith just two months ago.

She was also preceded in death by her parents Warrick Perkins of Salyersville, Kentucky and Ruth Collinsworth also of Salyersville. Her son Timothy Smith and her great grandchildren, Taiya McCray and Aidan Smith. She also lost several brothers before her passing.

She is survived by her children: Donnie Smith, Stephen Smith (Heather) and Michelle Carlson (Jim), her grandchildren Kimberly McCray (Jimmy), DJ Smith and Emma Carlson, two great grandsons: Ty McCray and Orion Smith. She is also survived by several brothers and sisters and in-laws who cared for her a great deal and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom was an independent woman before being independent was normal. She left Kentucky and built a life for herself in Dayton, Ohio before meeting and marrying our father. She raised 4 children and ½ the neighborhoods children as well. Everyone was welcome in our home. She was devoted to God and served in many positions at Spinning Road Baptist Church and after retirement at North Naples Baptist Church.

Our mom was a servant until she could not serve anymore because of her dementia. She taught us to care for others, to welcome all, to be great hosts and to be generous. We will miss her and in honor of her spirit we ask you to be good hosts to someone, make them feel welcome, care for them.

A joint memorial service for our loving parents, Ruby and Smitty, will be held at Spinning Road Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio on Saturday, August 26th at 4:00pm. All are welcome.

Donnie, Steve & Michelle:

I hope you will remember me - we all grew up together although I lived in Kettering for most of my childhood after moving away from Riverside before I started kindergarten.

have just now found this sad news that you lost both your parents last year. Your mom was always known to me as my Aunt Ruby - and I am so glad that she and Uncle Smitty were able to visit my home several years ago - it may have been 2010. Both my parents are gone, too, and I can just bet that Aunt Ruby and my mom are sharing some great memories and laughs in Heaven.

I would love to reconnect with any of you and am on Facebook. My condolences go out to all of you. I loved Aunt Ruby and Uncle Smitty so very much, and will always hold them in my heart.

Lori (Bridges) Osborne (you can find me on Facebook as Lori J. Osborne and I'm still in Dayton.)

I saw your father's obituary a few months ago and so, of course, was shocked and saddened to see your mother's today. I remember the crazy and fun times we had when I babysat for all of you. Oddly enough I also had 3 sons and 1 daughter, in that order. Hold each other close during this difficult time and know that you are in my prayers.
