William Grieve Obituary
Naples, FL
William Pearson Grieve of Naples, FL, passed away on December 20, 2017. He was born in Buffalo, NY, in 1929.
Formerly one of the leading American bridge players, Bill represented the United States in the 1960 World Team Olympiad and won seven North American Bridge Championships from 1958 to 1975. He graduated from Boston University with a degree in Physics and worked for IBM in Texas and New York for over 25 years, retiring in 1987.
Bill and his wife of 52 years, Carla, moved to Naples in 1994 from Purchase, NY, after several years as seasonal residents. He devoted countless hours to the Naples Players, designing lighting for numerous productions. He also was a help desk volunteer for the Naples Free-Net and served as president of PCBUG, a personal computer business user group in Naples.
Bill loved living in Pelican Bay, going to the beach, playing tennis and cards, and watching basketball and golf. Most of all, he loved his family and he loved to laugh. He will be remembered as a kind man with a warm smile.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by their daughter, Catherine Chesney Grieve of Key Biscayne, FL; his son, Peter Grieve (Martha Garlick) of Rapid City, SD; Carla's sister, Linda Fikes of Naples, FL; her brothers, John (Liz) Montani of Naples, FL, and Charles (Maria) Montani of Chesterfield, MO; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, Laura and William Pearson Grieve, and his brother, John Chesney Grieve, predeceased him.
A memorial reception will be held 3-5 PM on Saturday, December 23rd at Hodges Funeral Home, 525 111th Avenue N, Naples, FL. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to United Way of Collier County. Condolences may be left at www.HodgesNaplesMG.com.

Bill was a good friend and neighbor to Sylvia and I. He stepped forward into the position of Condo President after Hurricane Wilma to provide leadership in initiating building renovation at the Stratford. Bill will be missed. Our prayers go out to his wife Carla and his children during this sorrowful period.
