Ruth R. (Horgan) Hederson

lifelong Ayer resident; 87

AYER -- Ruth R. (Horgan) Hederson, 87, formerly of Ayer, died Friday, October 26, 2012, at LifeCare of Nashoba Valley.

Her husband of 66 years, Harold T. Hederson, died in December 2010.

Mrs. Hederson was born in Ayer, January 3, 1925, a daughter of Charles and Anna G. (Feeney) Horgan and was a lifelong Ayer resident. She was a 1942 graduate of Ayer High School where she was a standout basketball player.

Mrs. Hederson leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Mary Hederson of Ayer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary E. and John Stanton of Ayer, Maureen and Bob McCarthy of Storrs, CT; three brothers, John Horgan, Philip Horgan and James Horgan all of Ayer; a sister, Mary Cote of Ayer; five grandchildren, Meghan Stanton, Marissa Hederson, Morgan McCarthy-Nowack, Michael McCarthy, Ryan Richer and three great-grandchildren, Patrick McCarthy, Cole Harold McCarthy-Nowack and Ellie Ruth McCarthy.

She was the sister of the late Charles Horgan, Thomas Horgan, Edna Dowey all of Ayer and Helen Poitras of Harvard.

Mrs. Hederson attended St. Mary's Church in Ayer and St. Anthony's Church in Shirley. She had volunteered at the annual St. Mary's Church Lawn Party and was a member of Catholic Daughters of America.

She had worked many years for New England Telephone Company and was a member of the Verizon Pioneers Club. Following her retirement from New England Telephone, she worked as a switchboard operator at Nashoba Community Hospital in Ayer. She had also worked briefly at the Medicine Shoppe in Ayer and in the office of Dr. Philip A. McGuane DDS in Ayer.

HEDERSON -- A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday, November 1st at St. Anthony's Church, 14 Phoenix Street, Shirley. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
