Walter Robert "Wally" Wiland

1954 - 2025

Walter "Wally" Robert Wiland, 71, of Hilliard, Florida, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
He was born Sept. 12, 1954 in Myersdale, Pennsylvania, to the late Ora Elizabeth Garlitz Wiland. He retired from St. Johns River Power Park after 23 years of faithful service. In his younger years in Maryland, he enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. Once he moved to Florida, he loved working in his garden and took great pride in his tomatoes. Mr. Wiland enjoyed watching western shows and Fox News. He mostly loved spending times with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son, Chris Wiland; a brother, Gary Wiland; and two sisters, Judy Broadwater and Mary Ellen Stark.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jane Hetz Wiland; his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and James Finley; two brothers, Marlin Wiland and Sylvan Wiland; his grandchildren, Lindsey (Turner) Cameron, Nathan (Sonya) Finley, Jacob (Lexie) Finley, Luke (Harmony) Wiland and Anna Jane (Jordan) Finley; two great-grandchildren, Everly Cameron and Crew Cameron; and his beloved fur baby, Poody.
The family received friends Sunday, Nov. 23 at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home – Callahan Chapel, 617365 Brandies Ave., Callahan, beginning at 5 p.m. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. at River Road Baptist Church with Pastor Benjie Loyd and Pastor Hal McIntosh officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to River Road Baptist Church Widows Fund or donations of cat food to the local humane society.
