Arthur Warren Smith III
Arthur Warren Smith III, 82, of Darien, CT, previously of Sarasota, FL, loving husband of Nancy L R Hendrix, passed peacefully at home on Thursday, August 26, 2021, surrounded by his wife and five daughters. Arthur was born on December 16, 1938 to proud parents Arthur Warren Smith II and Viora Reel Smith, in Tyler, TX. Arthur attended St Thomas Boys Choir School, NYC, Bronx School of Science HS 1951-1955, and served in the Navy 1956-1959, stationed on the USS Saratoga as an electronics engineer, and received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Bridgeport Engineering Institute. Arthur married Eleanor Mary Mellett on September 25, 1960 in Bronx, NY, moved to Ansonia, CT, where they raised their family of five daughters. Other than 5 years at Oriel Instruments of Stratford, CT, Arthur devoted his career to the design, creation and testing of aircraft simulators for military and commercial training, at Reflectone, Inc. of Stamford, CT and Tampa, FL. Arthur married Nancy L. R. Hendrix on March 14, 1998. Arthur and Nancy moved to The Residence at Sellecks Woods, Darien, CT in May, 2020.
Arthur enjoyed a lifelong dedication to NYT Crossword Puzzle, an interest shared by his mother, as well as Chess and Bridge. His passion was building and maintaining computers for entire family. Arthur is survived by his beloved wife and partner of 41 years, Nancy L R Hendrix, his five devoted daughters: Laura Smith Cupo of Stamford, CT (husband Albert, sons Alessandro and Christopher), Wanda Smith Forlivio of Darien, CT (husband John, children Francesca and Thomas Lipp, John and Lucas), Lenore Smith Crosson of Suffield, CT (husband John, daughters Olivia and Sophia), Maryann Smith Mahlen of Orland Park, IL (husband Brett, daughter Collette), and Gail Smith of Canton, CT (children Noah, Alison, Julia, and Ethan), two loving stepsons: Mark Hendrix (wife Leslie, sons David and John) and Keith Hendrix (wife Ellen, children Douglas, William, and Katherine), and several dear cousins in Tyler, Texas. Arthur was predeceased by his parents.
