He was born on April 9, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Leon and Merlyn Scott When he was a child, the family moved to Findlay, Ohio where Charlie first picked up a trombone, an instrument he enthusiastically played throughout his life During his years at Findlay High School and at college, he played in the school marching band, and for more than 30 years he played in the New Canaan Town Band

Throughout his business career, he served as a sales and marketing executive with technology and electrical distribution firms Most recently he was with Landis+Gyr, a multinational based in Zug, Switzerland where his position upon retirement was vice president of sales and marketing for North America

In later life, Charlie was the happiest when he could be outdoors with his friends or indoors engrossed in politics He was an avid member of the Good Old Boys, an association of retired men from more than a dozen Fairfield County clubs whose friendly but spirited competition in tennis during the warmer months and paddle tennis in the winter keeps them happy and fit He enjoyed trekking through the grounds of the Fairfield County Fish & Game Protective Association where he was an active member He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the New Canaan Field Club, and the New Canaan Senior Men's Club

Most days, Charlie could be found immersed in the political discussions of the day through the newspapers and magazines he subscribed to and the cable television shows he enjoyed watching
