John D Morrow

John D Morrow passed away on July 10th, 2012 peacefully in his home in Raleigh, North Carolina He was eighty-eight years old

John Morrow was born in Oklahoma City on September 12, 1923 to WC & Rosa Morrow He attended Purdue University studying Mechanical Engineering until school was interrupted by the attack at Pearl Harbor He was drafted in 1942; sent to NCSU, Mississippi State & Cornell University until the war ended He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1947 with a Business Degree He went on to earn a Law Degree in 1948

He married Wynona Urice in 1946, then joined Continental Oil Company in 1948 (later called "Conoco") His 35 year career with Conoco provided travel opportunities all over the world He started in Crude Oil Trading, promoted to Coordinating & Planning; Assistant Manager of Supply & Transportation; Assistant Treasurer in 1963; Treasurer in 1964; VP in 1965; Senior Vice President in 1968; Chief Financial Officer & Group Senior Vice President until he retired in 1983 He was a Director for Vista Chemical Company; Union Texas Petroleum; Eastern American Energy & Fuel Tech, Inc He served as Executive Council of Foreign Diplomats in Washington, DC

He also served as Director for the American Petroleum Institute until he was elected Chairman of Finance & Accounting

As he climbed the corporate ladder, the family moved from Ponca City, Oklahoma to Houston, Texas & then to New Canaan, Connecticut

The Morrow family joined the Congregational Church of New Canaan in 1964 John was an important member of the Church serving as Treasurer, Head of the Board of Directors, & Head of the Building Committee He also served as Chairman of the Environmental Commission & Chairman of the Building Committee in 2005 for the Town Council of New Canaan

He was an avid nature photographer but also a master watercolor artist He began studying with Walter Dubois Richards in the 1970's in New Canaan Birds, Alaskan fishing scenes & landscapes were his favorite subjects

In 2006, John & Wynona moved to Raleigh, NC to retire They celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary in March 2012 John was passionate about his family In addition to his wife, Wynona, he is survived by his five children; Ann Morrow, John Morrow, Jr, Susan Morrow Winstead, Beryl Morrow Schewe, Robert Morrow; ten grandchildren & two great-grandchildren

A service of Remembrance will be held at The Congregational Church of New Canaan, 23 Park Street, New Canaan, Connecticut on August 4th at 11 am

In lieu of Traditional Memorial Gifts and Flowers, contributions may be made to The New Canaan Congregational Church, 23 Park Street, New Canaan, CT 06840
