Joseph S. DeBlasi, 86, of New Canaan, CT passed away on April 3, 2022 at Norwalk Hospital with his loving family by his side. Joseph was born on November 9, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Pasquale and Marion Genco DeBlasi.
Mr. DeBlasi was Chairman & CEO of Decision Systems Inc, an information and technology firm from 1999-2022. He was Executive Director and CEO of the Association for Computing Machinery, a scientific and educational organization from 1990-1999. From 1964-1989 he was a senior executive with IBM where he was Director of Standards. From 1958-1964 he served in the USAF where he worked on research, development, and implementation of information systems for weapon systems management.
He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1958 with a degree in Mathematics and Physics. He had advanced graduate studies in Math at the University of Hawaii and George Washington University.
He was a member of the State Department Delegation to the International Telecommunications Union Plenipotentiary, the Department of Commerce Industry Functional Advisory Committee on Standards, Chairman of the US Committee for International Technology Standards, and Board of Trustees of the Hudson River Museum, and the New Canaan Exchange Club.
Mr DeBlasi is survived by his wife Helen, his daughter Barbara and her husband Tom, his son Patrick, grandchildren James Andrew Zalucky and Gina and Evelyn DeBlasi.
A Memorial Mass to honor Joseph's life will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 11:00am at St Aloysius Church, New Canaan, CT.
