Luis A. Moreno Jr.

Luis A Moreno Jr of Wilton, a former New Canaan resident, died Tuesday, April 30, at Wilton Meadows Health Care Center He was 92

Mr Moreno was born on Feb 13, 1921, in Havana, Cuba, to the late Luis and Maria Aragon Moreno of New York City

Mr Moreno graduated from the High School of Commerce in New York City and soon after, volunteered for the Army Air Corps where he earned his sergeant's stripes as a medic and a communications officer in World War II, serving both in the United Kingdom and France He returned home to join the firm of Crespi & Fernandez and later Frank B Hall, specializing in marine insurance He eventually established his own firm of Moreno International Inc in Westport

It was in New York City that Mr Moreno met and married the love of his life, Norma Thomsen Moreno de Gallegos The couple eventually settled in Wilton where they raised their family on West Meadow Road until 1994, when they retired to Heritage Hill Road in New Canaan There they remained until Mrs Moreno death in 2010

An avid golfer, Mr Moreno was a longtime member of the Silvermine Golf Club in Norwalk He also was a member of the Roton Point Beach Club in Rowayton The couple traveled extensively throughout Europe and Central America, where they enjoyed many close friends and extended family

"Elegant and handsome, Luis was the embodiment of a gentleman," his family said "It was impossible not to like him He was a dedicated son, a loving husband and a wonderfully kind and caring father and friend"

Mr Moreno is survived by four children, Robert A Moreno and his fiancée Judy King of Princeton, NJ, Steven L Moreno of Boca Raton, Fla, Maria Cristina "Tina" Smith and her husband Mark of Norwalk, and Victoria Oligino and her husband James of Bridgeport; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Smith Towers and her husband Adam of Norwalk, Natalie Smith and James Oligino of New York City, Cristina Smith of Canaan, and Michelle and Annette Moreno of Princeton, NJ

Mr Moreno's children are grateful to the staff of Wilton Meadows Health Care facility for their kind and excellent care as well as to Dr Alan Radin, they said
