Stephen R. Sugrue

We are sad to announce the passing of Stephen Sugrue, 65 years old, a resident of New Canaan, CT for over 35 years where he made a home with his high school sweetheart turned wife, Martha Sugrue and their son Shawn

Steve started his life in Tokyo, Japan and lived in England and Germany until his parents, who had found work abroad after the war, settled into their home town of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey with his older brother, Frank

Steve set his mind on being a lawyer at a young age, was a star athlete, an altar boy and president of his student class He attended Tufts University, in Medford, MA and received his law degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA where he learned his love of oysters and the culinary arts

He practiced law in New York City and had his office in New Canaan becoming friends with his clients along the way He had an exacting nature, wit and love of language that he brought to bear in his work

Steve was a lifelong learner, always looking to know more A consummate handyman, there was no task around the home he would not take on He became fluent in Spanish and taught himself many other languages He loved Shakespeare and played the piano, but will be remembered by his extended family and friends for his superb cooking skills, storytelling and puns He cared deeply and quietly about people and was generous without announcement

A private service was held on Dec 29 In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity or to Hope Community Center in Apopka, Fl
