Susan Jones Obituary

Susan Jones
Susan S. Jones, 84
March 3, 1941 – October 15, 2025
Susan Stoner Jones of Naples, FL, and formerly of New Canaan, CT, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025. Born Susan Keith Stoner on March 3, 1941, to Seth Haines and Neva Binkley Stoner, she was raised in Bristol, CT with her two brothers. Growing up, she spent her winters on the ski slopes of New England and her summers in the woods of Maine at Camp Wyonegonic.
During her sophomore year of high school, Susan studied abroad in Munich, Germany where she skied the Alps as often as possible. She then attended St. Mary's School in Peekskill, NY before graduating from Bradford Junior College in 1961 and Northwestern University in 1963. After earning a degree in Art History, Susan decided to pursue nursing. While studying at Columbia University, she met her future husband, Daniel Spencer Jones, an MBA student and fellow Northwestern graduate. Susan and Dan celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on October 1, 2025.
Susan worked as a pediatric RN before devoting herself to raising her three children, Katie, Danny and Maggie. She also provided essential support to Dan as he built their family business, NewsBank, inc. Committed to serving others, Susan donated her time and talents to many organizations over the years, including the American Red Cross, the Newcomers and Garden Clubs of New Canaan and the Naples Botanical Garden. She and Dan were dedicated and loyal supporters of Northwestern University, especially the football program. Susan rarely missed a chance to cheer on her beloved Wildcats!
She is survived by her loving family: husband, Dan; daughters, Kathryn (Dan) Cavanagh of Lewisburg, PA and Meredith Jones of El Portal, CA; daughter-in-law, Ann Afragola Jones of Woodstock, VT; grandchildren, Tim and Ian Cavanagh; Izzy, Trey and Charlie Jones; India, M'so and Lily Jones; brother Stephen (Betty) Stoner; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her cherished son, Daniel V. Jones II, her brother, Fred Stoner, and her parents.
Susan lived a life defined by warmth, grace, and generosity. She was known for her radiant smile and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. She will be missed!
A celebration of life will be held on April 18, 2026, at 11 a.m., Bower Chapel, Moorings Park Dr., Naples, FL.

Dear Dan, Katie, and Maggie,

I am so sorry to hear about Susan. I will never forget how gracious she was during a Christmas 23 years ago. She sat with me, listened to me, and offered a perspective that brought love and compassion to an incredibly powerful time in my life. I will always be grateful for knowing her as my aunt.

You and your families are in my prayers.

Most Sincerely,
Karen
