Susan B "Ticket" May of Delray Beach, Fla, Edgartown, Mass, and New Canaan, died on Wednesday, Nov 7, 2012

Ticket May was born in 1913 in Chicago She attended the North Shore Country Day in Winnetka, Ill, and the Miss Wright's School in Bryn Mawr, Pa She went to finishing school in Paris, France

During Mrs May's teens, she served as a courier for the horses in the Kentucky Nursing Service She was a member of the Junior League and made her debut in 1933 in Chicago Shortly thereafter, she moved to New York City and worked for Clara Laughlin Travel Service

In 1937, she married Winston Lewis May Jr of New York City and moved to Rye, NY and then New Canaan During WWII, Mrs May trained as a Red Cross nurse's aid and worked in Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk

Mrs May's husband died in 1975, so in 1979 she moved from New Canaan and took up residency in Delray Beach, Fla and Edgartown, Mass on Martha's Vineyard Mrs May was a longtime member of the New Canaan Country Club, The Country Club of Florida, the Gulf Stream Bath & Tennis Club and The Edgartown Golf Club She was also a member of The Delray Beach Club and the Edgartown Yacht Club Mrs May was a renowned Bridge and Backgammon player She was also an excellent and avid golfer She designed all of her numerous needlepoint canvasses and rarely missed a Yankee game In her early 80's she took up painting and by her early 90's was an accomplished and prolific artist

Mrs May will perhaps best be remembered by her family and friends as a highly spirited and indomitable woman Who in Edgartown will ever forget the wonderful lady in the aquamarine pith helmet, securely ensconced in a solid steel 1979 Red Jeep Grand Cherokee Wagoner, driving through our narrow and idyllic streets

Mrs May leaves four children, Mrs Linda May Smith of Darien, the late Mr Peter VB May of Granby, Mrs Suzie M Binch of New Canaan, and Mrs Winifred May "Winky" Nyquist of John's Creek, Ga; three son-in-laws, Philip B Smith, James R Binch, the late Bruce R Nyguist and one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth May; 10 grandchildren, including Alice Clark of New Canaan, and 14 great-grandchildren
