Mark Patrick Weiler Obituary

Mar 17, 1948 - Jan 28, 2026

Mark Patrick Weiler, age 77, passed away on January 28, 2026, at the Gately House in Syracuse after a courageous battle following several strokes over the past couple of years. Born on March 17, 1948, to Robert and Gloria (Barr) Weiler in Nebraska City, Mark spent his childhood on the family farm on the west edge of Dunbar, a place that forever held a strong place in his heart. Though he lived his adult life in Syracuse, Mark never missed a day traveling the low road to Dunbar.

Mark attended school in Dunbar until the high school closed in 1964 and graduated from Syracuse High School in 1966. He then attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for one semester before transferring to Peru State College, where he also played football and baseball; baseball being his favorite. Mark graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Education and went on to work at Granneman Agency, specializing in real estate and appraisal, and eventually became an owner.

Mark served in the United States Army from 1971 until 1976. He was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and transferred to Nebraska City, Nebraska, for active duty in the reserves.

On November 24, 1990, Mark was united in marriage to Kathi Reuter, beginning a partnership built on family, faith, and shared community ties.

Mark was an active community member. He took pride in the Syracuse Jaycees. He was a 50-year Master Mason in Union Lodge No. 287. For years, he played on the Rocket Lanes men's fast-pitch softball team with some of his closest friends. He could usually be found coaching one of his kids' baseball, softball, or football teams from 1975 until 2017. As a youth sports advocate, he helped build the ball field at the elementary school in the 80's and served on the committee that built the Syracuse Sports Complex in 2010.

In 2022, Mark was proudly inducted into the Rocket Athletic Hall of Fame for his excellence in baseball, football, basketball, and track during high school.

Mark was a thoughtful listener who valued meaningful conversation, especially when it came to baseball. Little League and the Kansas City Royals were his favorite. He also enjoyed watching westerns, particularly John Wayne. Above all, Mark had a heart of gold and always wanted the very best for his family and those around him.

Mark is survived by his wife Kathi; brother Gary Weiler (Joyce Gilbert), and sister Sue (Kent) Antes; son Jay (Jo) Weiler and daughter Lynn (Nick) Wilhelm, all of Syracuse, from his first marriage to Marlene Weiler; and sons born to Mark and Kathi, Brett (Randi) Weiler of Lincoln and Zane Weiler (Kaela Pettit) of Syracuse. His grandchildren include Derek (Ellie) Weiler and great-grandchildren Beckett and Amelia of Dunbar; Taylor Weiler of Omaha; Vanessa Weiler of Kansas City; Sam Varney and Tessa Varney, both of Lincoln; Livia (Dylan) Wagner and Halle Wilhelm of Syracuse. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Matt Reuter and Kurt Reuter of Dunbar; Rod (Connor) Reuter and Randy Reuter of Lincoln, along with many nieces, relatives, and dear friends.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents Robert and Gloria, in-laws Ronald (Bud) and Marilyn (Ahrens) Reuter, sister-in-law Sue Weiler, and grandson H Wilhelm. Especially his mom, Gloria, who will be waiting for him at the kitchen table with a drink ready.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Kimmel Event Center in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman Facebook page.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the funeral home in Syracuse, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation, including Syracuse American Legion Baseball program.
