It is with great sadness that the family of Alfred Wolfgang Hahn announce his passing on May 23, 2021, at the age of 70; after succumbing to an aggressive form of colon cancer.
Alfred is preceded in death by his father, Alfred Otto Hahn and mother, Kaethe (Walewski) Hahn. He is survived by his spouse, Vickie Lou (Matzen); his 3 children: Stephanie (Rod) Davison, Greg (Laura) Hahn and Monika (Brian) Stalzer; his grandchildren: Madalyn (Ryan Stream) Hewitt, Teighlor (Steven Kooiker) Lonning, Jillian Lonning, Tori Spillane, Leah Spillane, Johnny Spillane, Aidan Spillane, Jenna Hahn, Avery Hinson, Drake Hinson and Pepper Hinson; and great-grandchildren, Payton Hewitt and Leah Kooiker. He is also survived by his sister, Rosalie (Robert) Olson; his brother, Gary (Janet) Hahn, and his sister, Ingrid Spies along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Alfred was born in Kempten, Germany, September 4th, 1950. In 1955 his father, mother, and sister (Rosalie) immigrated to America, and set up their home in Algona, Iowa. After graduating from Algona High School, he completed the IBEW electrical apprenticeship program and was a union electrician for many years. Alfred's line of work changed when he became Story County Hospital's facility manager, then later Story County's facilities manager. He was proud of his accomplishments as the construction supervisor of several Story County's buildings, either built or remodeled, using a host of environmentally friendly techniques, one of which is the use of Geothermal energy. In return, Story County received several Energy Star Awards.
Alfred's devotion to his family came first in his love of life. We all will miss his sense of humor and witty remarks, his expertise in so many fields: construction, carpentry, computers and best of all sports trivia. The Hawkeye football and basketball season never came too early for Alfred.
