Jerald Franklin Nagle
Nevada - Jerald Franklin Nagle, 63, of Nevada, IA, passed away Saturday, February 13, at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls, SD due to congestive heart failure and other health complications.
Jerry was born September 6, 1957, in Ames, IA to Paul LaVerne and Betty Jean (Ramsey) Nagle. He served in the United States Marine Corps where earning rank of Corporal following Pistol Sharpshooter and Rifle Expert accolades before an honorable discharge. On February 23, 1985 he was married to Laure See in Nevada, IA where they raised their four children for the next 25 years. Jerry's children were the center of his world. Raising his kids and encouraging them as adults was his greatest joy.
Jerry lived a big and full life, that was always centered around family, friends and racing. He was a regular in the stands at Nevada youth and high school sporting events including softball, basketball, and soccer during his kids' playing careers. He took pride in not missing a game and would often remind his kids, "I'm your biggest fan." He wasn't shy to heckle an official on a bad call… even if Jerry himself wasn't quite sure on the specific rule in question.
Weekends were spent traveling to racetracks to support his son Paul's racing career of go-karts, trucks, asphalt cars, late models, and more. He was the self-appointed crew chief who encouraged his driver, supervised the pit, and offered recommended chassis adjustments.
Beyond taking an interest in everything his kids were into and racing, Jerry wanted to drive and play with anything that had a motor. That included boating and jet-skis on vacation in Okoboji, maxing out go-kart tracks, four-wheelers, snowmobiles, and more. He was always a kid at heart and embraced a "Dennis-the-menace" mentality of pushing the limits.
Jerry found friendship and camaraderie in connecting with veteran social groups. His love language was often expressed through a phone call or text that started with, "Hey let's go out to lunch somewhere" and ended with plans at a local restaurant.
His entrepreneurial spirit is seen through his many business ventures throughout life. Jerry and his dad ran Cyclone Steeplejacks for many years into the late 90's and he continued to tell the stories of work and friendship of the "crew." Later, Kid Money Trucking was established and supported the fast-paced family years. More recently, he was proud to work for Papillion Grand Canyon Helicopters on the fuel team for private tours of the Grand Canyon.
He is survived by his parents, Paul and Betty Nagle of Nevada; his four children: Laure Beth (Matt) Lyons of Ankeny, Paul Nagle (Taylor Watson) of Nevada, Ashlee (Ty) Nichols of Algona, and Jeri Nagle (Nick Garretson) of Muscatine; a sister, Linda (Dan) Kamm of Ames. He is also survived by nephews James (Heidi) Heintz, Mike (Alicia) Heintz, and Matt Heintz and their many children who he was proud of and loved to see and visit with. Lastly, Jerry was a proud and enthusiastic grandpa who loved to spend time with and buy trucks for his first grandchild, Zackary Roe Nichols. Jerry wasn't short on expressing his excitement for more grandkids. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul LaVerne Nagle.
Visitation will be Friday, February 19 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Face coverings and social distancing are requested.
