Thomas Samuel Davis, 88, of Beaumont, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021, after a brief illness.
Born Jan. 30, 1933 at Homeopathic Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Samuel R. and Amelia H. Davis.
Instilled with a lifelong thirst for knowledge, Tom was a graduate of Beaumont High School, a 1955 graduate of Bloomsburg State Teacher's College, and he earned a Master of Sciences degree from the University of Scranton in 1962. In the summers during college, Tom worked as a merchant mariner on the Great Lakes, joined the U.S. Naval Reserves after graduation, and transferred to active duty in the U.S. Navy, where he was a member of the first crew of the U.S.S. Ponchatoula/AO-148.
Tom was a teacher for 25 years, educating high school students in Milton, Del.; Ringtown; Owego, N.Y.; and Addison, N.Y. until his retirement in 1988. He went on to another long career with the State of Pennsylvania, working for D.E.R. and D.E.P. as a State Park Ranger, a Wastewater Treatment Specialist, and a Public Water Inspector.
In addition to being a teacher, arbor culturist, farmer, and all-around naturalist, he was an avid hunter and target shooter. He collected many different firearms, hand-loaded his own ammunition, and enjoyed discussing riflery and ballistics in great length. He also loved traveling with his wife Susan to research genealogy and to attend reunions with alumni, shipmates, or family, or just to enjoy a scenic drive.
Tom was also very active in his community as a member of the Beaumont Union Gospel Church, Gideons International, Kunkle Fire Company, and The American Legion Post 457.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his twin brother, Charles H. Davis.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Susan (Hadsall); a daughter, Ellen Morehouse (Loren) of Everett, Wash.; sons: David Davis of Westfield, and Ethan Davis (Kristy) of Nuangola; grandchildren: Lucas Morehouse of Bothell, Wash., and Stitch Morehouse of Everett, Wash.; a sister, Priscilla Perry (William) of Orange; a brother, George 'Billy' Davis of Indianapolis, Ind.; as well as many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, in-law, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m., in the Nulton Kopcza Funeral Home, 5749 Route 309, Beaumont, Monroe Twp. with the Rev. Dominick Petillo of the Beaumont Union Gospel Church officiating.

Losing a spouse is the worst thing that ever happened to me. That was fifteen years ago, Sue.
As I think you know, I am carrying on.
I will never
forget Tom and Con Hiden carrying me in to sick bay that night when the sea tried to get me. I was unable to walk and barely conscious. May God bless him and welcome him home.

On behalf of Tom´s many friends in the USS Ponchatoula Shipmates Association, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Susan and his family on his passing. Tom was on the pre-commissioning crew of the "Ponch" in 1955 and was a revered "Plank Owner" as a member of the first crew that sailed our proud ship in 1956. Tom and Susan were devoted to the Association, attending our biennial reunions and contributing their warmth and steadfast presence to our organization. We will miss Tom mightily. May he rest in everlasting peace.

I´m so very sorry to hear this news of Tom. I worked with Tom for over 10 years at DEP in Water Supply! He was a very intelligent, sweet, big hearted and I must say unique in a good way. I´ve always enjoyed his stories, suggestions and advice. He had an infectious laughter too. A very happy man. I´m sure he will be sadly missed by his family and friends as I am as well. RIP Tom!
My sincere condolences
