Burton H. Potts

NEWARK: A funeral service for Burton H. "Pottsie" Potts, age 71, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Bryan K. Grove officiating. Burial will take place in Hanover Cemetery.

Burton went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness. He was born October 12, 1940 in Rock Cave, West Virginia to the late Osbert William and Vanis Virginia (Hyre) Potts.

Burton retired in 1994 from Rockwell International where he had been employed for 36 years. He loved working on cars, going for walks and enjoyed Western and military television shows, especially on the History Channel. He was fond of taking trips to Amish Country, especially Walnut Creek. He loved his family and enjoyed attending their sporting events. He attended Spring Hill Baptist Church and loved the Lord.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judith A. (Lyons) Potts, whom he married May 11, 1968; three children, Joseph B. (Jeri) Potts, Jamie L. (Sara) Potts and Trina K. (Joseph) Brown, all of Newark; grandchildren, Tanner Potts, Spc. Cody (Jenn) Potts, Brian Henry, Robert Carlile and Skylar Sheppard; great-grandchildren, Layton Parrish, Wyatt Potts, Chandler Potts, Taylor Carlile and Hayden Carlile; a brother, Robert Potts of Arkansas; sisters, Louise (K.C.) Hale of Clarksville, TN and Carol (Kenny) Zigan of Newark; nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats, Mimi and Angel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Potts; and by infant sisters.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio or Spring Hill Baptist Church.

Uncle Burt will be missed by all who know him. Aunt Judy, Joe @ Jamie, I'm sorry for your loss but we all can rest assured he is in a better place. It was great being able to be with you all when mom and I came up recently.

Several of my best childhood memories were from all of the time I spent at the Potts' home. Burt always treated me like a son. I remember him being a hard worker a great father and a great man. Thanks for all the Louies pizza's
