Frederick Cortez Obituary
NEWARK: A memorial service for Frederick John Cortez, age 52, of Newark, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with the Reverend JCP Sullivan officiating.
Fred passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). He was born August 19, 1960 in Newark, Ohio.
Fred was a 1979 graduate of Newark Catholic High School. He had been a maître d' at Lindey's and the Columbus Athletic Club for many years.
He is survived by his mother, Louise A. (Testa) Cortez; a son, Addison Cortez of Alexandria; brothers, Michael A. Cortez of Newark and John F. Cortez of Chillicothe; and nieces and nephews, Caitylyn, Christina, Annie, Justin and Joshua.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis J. "Frank" Cortez; and by his grandparents, Anthony and Katherine Cortez and Fredrico and Rosa Testa.
The family will receive friends from 6:15 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.

I just saw this an so upset I didnt see it in time to attend his services. I met freddy about 8 yrs ago.. he lived Upstairs from me an my daughter, we really took to him quickly. my daughter loved him dearly. we are so saddened to hear of his passing. sending late but lots of thoughts to the family of him. he will be missed.

Although we were in the same class at NC, I never got to know him that well but I knew he had a very kind heart. It showed at our 10 year reunion. He is now with my father and husband. There's a party going on up there. He will be forever missed.

Fred, You will have to find Sister Imelda and confess that it was you and Boo Boo humming "Smoke On The Water" in her classroom back in 7th grade!!! You named me "Hazel Wad" in 6th grade and it stuck!!! You were so much fun to be with... at school and then again at the Granville Inn! What meant so much to me is when you came to my mom's calling hours with tears in your eyes and a Madonna in your hand and asked if you could put it in my mom's casket because you knew she loved Madonnas and that she was the one teacher that took the time to understand you. You were one special person! You will be greatly missed!

I took care of Freddy when he came to the hospital. He became my best buddy! I will miss him terribly! You are in the arms of the angels now my friend, no more pain or hurt. I love ya Freddy!
