Rev. Seth W. Oiler

NEWARK: A funeral service celebrating the life of Rev. Seth W. Oiler, age 42, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Steve Rath and Pastor Bill Lyle officiating.

Rev. Oiler passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2015. He was born July 19, 1972 in Gallipolis, Ohio.

Seth was an Ordained Elder in the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church and was fully ordained in 2014. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, member of Newark Rotary and former IT professional. He served as pastor at Ware's Chapel United Methodist Church in West Manchester (2009), Peace United Methodist Church in Pickerington (2011) and First United Methodist Church in Newark (2013).

Seth loved God, Ronald Reagan and Captain America. He adored all things Star Wars and being in the water surrounded by nature. Seth was accomplished in music and voice and enjoyed playing the piano.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Brothers) Oiler; their three children, Isabelle Oiler, Abigail Evans and Noah Oiler; his parents, Diane and David Miller of Jamestown and Jim and Maggie Oiler of Rio Grande; a step-sister, Amy (Jason) Thatcher of Delaware; and first wife, Christine Klump.

Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m., on Tuesday, May 26, at The Heath Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath. Burial will take place at Ware's Chapel United Methodist Church in West Manchester on Thursday, May 28 at 11 a.m. where military honors will be observed.

On this 5th year of the anniversary of his passing the little boy that I raised is still so much a part of me that the time has meant absolutely nothing. I see a child riding a bike, it is Seth, swimming-Seth, Scouts-Seth. I love you Son and will be with you again soon.

There are really no words to express how sorry I am for your loss. Seth is a big reason that my husband and I began going to church again, Seth baptized my first grand daughter last spring and he did a wonderful job. I learned a lot from Seth in his short time with First Church, I learned from Seth that Our God is a loving, caring, compassionate forgiving God. Seth taught me that God loves all of us and there is simply nothing we can do about it. Rest in Peace Seth, Your job here on earth is complete.
