Bernard Fitzpatrick Obituary

NEW BERN | Bernard J. Fitzpatrick, Jr. died December 18, 2016 in his home in New Bern. He was born January 10, 1926 in the Bronx, NY and grew up on Long Island, NY.
He enlisted after High School at the age of 17 in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After graduating from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio in 1950, he was employed as Director of the Boys Club in Queens, NY and then Superintendent of Recreation for the City of Glen Cove, NY. Prior to retirement he was a Representative for McGregor Sporting Goods.
Bernie retired to New Bern from Glen Cove, NY in 1989. He was a member of the Greenbrier Golf club and original columnist (Bernie's Blarney) for the Greenbrier newspaper. He was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church where he served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and member of the Parish Council.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marlene and daughter and son-in-law Devon and Stuart Cheshire of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
A celebration of Bernie's life will be held at 10 AM Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Paul Catholic Church.
Memorials in Bernie's name may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, 3005 Country Club Road, New Bern, NC 28562.

Marlene, I have just learned of Bernie's passing. Richie and I are so sorry. I fondly remember our Christmas visits coming to pick up all the chocolate houses you made for all my grandchildren. Peace be with you.
