Richard Alan Barnhill, 57, of the Spring Garden community, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Joanie, on Monday, April 26th, 2021. Alan was a lifelong resident of Craven County and was a graduate of the West Craven High School class of 1982. He owned and operated a lawncare business for many years and loved his customers, whom he considered family. Alan will always be remembered for his big heart, compassionate nature and willingness to help anyone in need.
Alan is survived by his parents, Jim and Joan Barnhill; sister, Margaret Chance and husband Joe; mother-in-law, Dixie Dixon; brother-in-law, Don Dixon and wife Shannon; nieces, Katie and Emily Chance and Haven Dixon; nephew, Colbey Dixon; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He also leaves behind his friend and longtime helper in his lawncare business, Santiago Mancilla.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 1st at Alan's home, located at 645 Spring Garden Road, New Bern. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 2nd at Spring Garden Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor David McAnelly officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alan's name to the Colonial Capital Humane Society or to Spring Garden Baptist Church.
