He was a member of Antioch Free Will Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. When the church burned in January 2002, Butch was instrumental in overseeing the demolition and clearing the land to prepare for a new building. He owned and operated T & C Railroad Repair Inc. He was an avid salt water fisherman who passionately loved spending time on the water with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Lee Register.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debra. He was a loving father to four sons, Linwood R. "Linne" Fulcher and wife, Crystal, of Bentonville, Ark., Charles "Joey" Register and significant other, Megan Banks, John F. Register and wife, Shannon, all of Vanceboro, and Kevyn H. Fulcher and wife, Kimberly, of Holly Springs; his parents, Travis Register Sr. of Cove City and Ruth R. Long and her husband, Bill, of New Bern; two sisters, Janie R. Hardison and her husband, Garvin, of Minnesott Beach and Kim R. Jones and husband, Glen, of New Bern. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Hailee Register, Bryana Fulcher, Taylor Register, Logan Register, Braydin Fulcher, Kellyn Fulcher, Wesley Register, Brycen Fulcher and Kacey Fulcher; one nephew; four nieces; and "Our" guardian angel Mary "Sister" Gibson.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Antioch Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Cotten Funeral Home.

Dear Debbie, I am so saddened to hear about Butch. I know he as well as you have fought a long hard battle. I am sorry I could not be there today but I talked with Dallas Jr tonight and he told me what a beautiful tribute was made in honor of his life today.I remember Brother telling me some time back that Butch told him either way things went he was a winner. If he stayed here he still had so much he was blessed with and if he passed he would be with his Heavenly Father. I think that thought in itself speaks volumns for what an exceptional husband you had and a Dad the boys had. As you may or may not know I broke my ankle and had to come and stay with my son Kevin in Wilson because I couldn't stay alone. I want you to know you are in my prayers and I'm sure you will be lifted up by many and given the strength you will need to get you through the coming weeks. Love Rita

Debbie, We are saddened to hear of your loss. We remember the last time we talked with Butch. We were eating lunch at Texas Steakhouse, and spoke briefly with you, Butch and Ms. Gibson. We remember the conversation; he was so thankful, even though his health was deteriorating and we will always remember his smile and his kindness. Your family is in our prayers.

Dear Debbie,
We are so deeply sorry and share in your loss. We were supposed to go fishing, Butch & I, but what I've come to realized is the fact that Butch had reeled us in a long time ago. Fisher of Men that gentleman Butch, whom we came to know one day & dearly loved as a friend. Pam & I love you both very much and we're here for you. May we recommend Psalm 91, may it bring you much comfort as it has brought us in troubled times.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

"The Day God Called You Home"

God looked around his garden,
and found an empty space.
He then looked down upon his earth, and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you,
and lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He chooses only the best.
He knew you were suffering,
and in so much pain.
He also knew in heaven,
you would never hurt again.
He knew your road was getting rough,
and the hills so hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids, and whispered 'Peace be Thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you,
but you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you, forever in God's home.

Debbie: Despite everything you and Butch have been through over the past couple of years, you always took the time to think and do for others. The word "special" does not adequately describe the type of people you and Butch are. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you. May you feel the strength and love of God's arms in the days ahead.

Debbie,

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family now as they have been since Butch and Daddy were in rooms next to each other at Duke in 2006. It was tough seeing what they both were going through! Daddy went ahead of Butch to Heaven to prepare for his arrival! I wonder if they are fishing now?

God Bless You Debbie and the Register Family!

In Christ,

Even though we are apart,
My spirit will live on,
There within your heart...
I am with you always."

Death, be not proud

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.
