WHITMIRE — Marion "Butch" Starnes Jr., age 70, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021, at his home.

He was born July 14, 1951, and was the son of the late Marion Loyd Starnes Sr. and Carrie McMurtury Malone. He was retired from Cone Mills after 41 years of service, a veteran of the South Carolina National Guard, a former member of the Whitmire Rescue Squad, a member of the Whitmire Masonic Lodge #195, he attended Pine Ridge Baptist Church. Butch was an avid wood carver and enjoyed making crank baits, hunting, fishing, his children, grandchildren and nephews.

Mr. Starnes is survived by his wife, Esther Reardon Starnes of the home; his children, Michelle Knight (Jason) of Newberry and Travis Starnes; his grandchildren, Kristopher Long, Carrie Burns, April Knight, CJ Meakim, Justin Knight, Ashlyn Knight; his many nephews and great-nephews that he loved dearly; special sister-in-law, Betty Reardon; and special friends, Cathy and Larry Evans.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Linda Starnes; his step-father, William "Bill" Malone.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 3 p.m. at Pine Ridge Baptist Church with burial to take place at Whitmire Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites. The family received friends prior to the service from 1-3 p.m. at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Pine Ridge Baptist Church, 220 Lee Cemetery Road, Whitmire, SC 29178.

The family will be at his home.
