NEWBERRY — William "Bill" Henry Mills Jr. passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at his home in Newberry, S.C.
Born in Laurens, S.C., on August 8, 1930, he was the son of the late William H. Mills Sr. and May Dell Bishop Mills.
Mr. Mills began his military career and service to our country in 1950 in the Army National Guard and then served four years in the United States Navy. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.S. in business administration in 1958 and was in the ROTC while a student. He then served twenty years in the United States Air Force and retired as a major in 1978.
He retired from SCE&G, where he worked as an electrical engineer, after almost 20 years of service.
Mr. Mills will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He had a strong faith and was an active member of Central United Methodist Church for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Freddie Street Mills; two sons, William R. Mills (Christine) and Francis Scott Mills (Billie Ann); three grandsons, Richard Scott Mills (Lindsey), William Hunter Mills and Jeffrey Bryant Mills (April); and a great-grandson, Jase Bryant Mills.
Mr. Mills was predeceased by his parents and sister, Frances Mills Medlock.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Joe Long at Central United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2022. Burial with military honors will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church.
