NEW BRITAIN
Edward J. Zieger, devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 88. Born to Edward and Johanna Zieger, Ed grew up grounded in the values of hard work, humility, and kindness. He was a lifelong resident of New Britain. Ed spent his career as a middle school science teacher in the Newington School System. He was an inspiration to generations of students with his curiosity, patience, and unwavering belief in the power of learning. He brought enthusiasm to every classroom and left a lasting impact on countless young lives. Ed, also known as "Coach" or "Mr. Z." made sports and fitness a priority throughout his life. He coached soccer, basketball and baseball. But most of all, Ed loved a good round of golf, the excitement of a day at the casino, and cheering for his beloved UCONN Huskies and Cleveland Guardians. He also loved tending his yearly vegetable garden and was especially proud of his tomatoes. These passions brought him fun, friendship, and stories and jokes he loved to share. Ed's greatest devotion, however, was to his family. He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn of sixty-two years; his son Steve Zieger and wife Jeanne; his daughter Cindy Dighello and husband Rick; and his grandson Nick Dighello and wife Alina, along with their daughter Evangeline, who brought him immense joy as his great-granddaughter. He greatly loved his niece, Sara W. Coffey and her family, his nephews Jeff and Tim Wise and their families, and his brother-in-law, Tom Wise. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Zieger, his sisters-in-law, Joan Winton and Barbara Wise, his brother-in-law, Harold "Babe" Wise, son-in-law Dr. Paul A. Paladino, and nephews, David Winton and Jimmy Wise. Surrounded by his family, Ed loved a good meal and a cold glass of Chardonnay. Ed will be remembered for his warmth, humor, generosity, and the steady, gentle presence he brought to every life he touched. Ed's spirit lives on in his family, his students, his friends, and all who were blessed to know him. Ed was a man of great faith and a consummate gentleman. His family has it on good authority that he's already made arrangements for a golf tournament in heaven. They would also like to thank the many friends he has made over the years while golfing at Stanley Golf Course and throughout the state. May you all continue to hit 'em straight. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Stanley Golf Club, 245 Hartford Road,
