Kenneth Cyr Obituary

Kenneth Joseph Cyr, 62, of Barkhamsted, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 9, 2023, with his beloved family by his side. Born in Canada to Juliette and the late Edwin Cyr, Kenneth grew up in New Britain and graduated from New Britain High School. In 1977 Kenneth enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After his service in the USMC, Kenneth enlisted in the Connecticut Army National Guard, proudly serving eight years combined. Following his military service, Kenneth joined the Carpenters Union.
In 1992, he began working for the Connecticut Department of Corrections as an officer and proudly retired as a supervisor with 24 years of service. Kenneth also volunteered as a firefighter for seven years at the Pleasant Valley Fire Department, serving as Chief for over three of those years. Several years ago, Kenneth started his own company, Northwest Construction, which he operated successfully throughout his retirement.
Kenneth will be most remembered for his witty sense of humor, and his loyalty and commitment to his family, friends, and community. Whether it was for the DOC, Pleasant Valley Fire Department, or his family and friends, Kenneth always put others needs before his. When not at work or actively assisting those around him, Kenneth could be found riding his motorcycles in Florida with his brother, James, or in Connecticut riding with friends and family.
In addition to his father, Edwin Cyr, Kenneth joins in Christ his beloved brother, James Cyr. Kenneth leaves behind his mother, Juliette Cyr, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and beloved friends.
Friends and family are invited to call upon Kenneth's family at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 from 9-11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 1755 Stanley Street, New Britain at 12 p.m. Interment services with full military honors will be held at St. Mary Cemetery immediately following.
