Maria Szmajda, 97, of New Britain, passed away on April 22, 2021 at Autumn Lake in New Britain. Daughter to the late Iwon and Katerina (Rimar) Wenher, Maria spent her early days in the Ukraine before immigrating to the United States in the early 1950's. A longtime member of St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Maria will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Maria is predeceased by her husband Michael since 2010. Maria is survived by, and will be dearly missed by her God Son, Wasyl "Bill" Magac, of Southington; close friends near and far as well as all parishioners of St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Calling hours will be held at New Britain Memorial Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Panikhida at 6 p.m. A Second Panikhida will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 10 a.m. with a Funeral Mass will follow at St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Eddy Glover Blvd, New Britain at 11 a.m., with a burial to follow at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Osgood Avenue, New Britain.
