Gary R. Schenzer, age 86, of New Milford, CT died peacefully at Danbury Hospital on June 16, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Mary A. (Bennitt) Schenzer for 58 years.
He was born on October 6, 1938 in Scranton, PA, the son of the late Robert D. and Helen G. (Beynon) Schenzer. He graduated from Danbury High School and served in the U.S. Army for 3 years. He went on to become a cable splicer at S.N.E.T., where he worked for over 30 years, retiring in 1993.
Gary held many diverse interests and hobbies throughout the years including woodworking, tennis, golf, poetry, art, skiing, bowling, sailing, fishing, and skeet shooting. He was a friend and mentor to many as well was a captivating story teller, whose contagious laughter will be remembered always.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Ellen L. Schenzer of Ka'a'awa, HI; and his grandchildren Naomi, Tori, and Alexis Fields. He was predeceased by his son Darryl W. Schenzer.
He is also survived by his brother Daniel E. and his wife Barbara (Meyers)Schenzerof Sandy Hook, CT, his very special brother-in-law Paul J. Bennitt of Danbury, CT and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 4 p.m. at The First Congregational Church of New Milford, 36 Main St., New Milford, CT. A private burial at Center Cemetery in New Milford will be held at the family's convenience.
Donations in his honor can be made to The First Congregational Church of New Milford's Baby Bundles program. Arrangements are being handled by the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, CT.
