2024
Ollie Mae Swagerty was born on January 11, 1947 in Newport, Tennessee, and she departed this earthly realm, at her home surrounded by family on March 13, 2024. She was raised in Newport community in Rock City and was an avid green thumb and can be seen even in her Sunday best pulling weeds from her flower bed. Also was remembered, from sunup to sundown, grooming her yard and preparing flowers for the sick and those shut-in and everyone that loved her beautiful flower arrangements. She was a bootleg of a seamstress that could create fashions out of nothing in a minute.
She worked at plants in Newport, Electro-Voice and Firestone as a supervisor for many years, before she entered into the cosmetology school, Tennessee School of Beauty. Ollie then went on to own her own Little Ollies Hair Affair Salon, and then transitioned to opening her own child day-care center, Little Ollies Sugar-Spice. She attended Tanner High and was a member of True Light Holiness Church in Newport, TN and then New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death her mother, Emma Jean Haney; father, Horace Haney; brothers and sisters, Donald Edward "Don-Don" Haney, Mary "Elizabeth" Haney, Horace Haney, Horace Maurice "Reece" Haney, David "Big Jim" Haney, Jenni Lee Carter, Laythaniel "Blue" Haney, and Edward "Drake" Haney.
She is survived by her brother, Johnny ( Jannette) Haney; sister, Paula Wallington (late Frank Sr.); also survived by her four children; Deana Juana (Sherman) Holmes of Knoxville, TN; Jerri Lynn (Pablo) Gonzales of Newport, TN; Anthony Quinn (Jeffery) Swaggerty of Madison, AL; Kimberly Annette Swagerty of Newport, TN; ex-husband, Rudene Lewis Swagerty of Newport, TN; grandkids, Sheena ElizabethJean (Carlos) Hurst, Jerrod Swagerty, Chyna Swagerty, Kimbel Thorton, Justin Dockery, Jeremy Dockery, Raquel Holmes and Aaliyah Holmes; and eleven great-grandkids. Ollie Mae leaves to cherish in memory a host of Nephews, nieces, cousins, and many devoted friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
