I remember him as the one who was genuine interested in people and who kept a balance between all the verious tribes in Zambia, an inspiration for other leaders. He was a teacher at heart you could tell if you listened to his speeches repeating the important lines to make sure you wouldn't miss the message. I happened to have met him a few times in Zambia, in Luangwa National Park too, were he gave us the right of way (very friendly) and I had a few words with him personal in the Netherlands (MINBUZA). He felt as our president too the time we lived in Zambia.
Condoleances to his family and the people of Zambia in these already special difficult times.

I had the privilege to meet the President in Washington, D.C. in the 1980s, during an official visit to the USA. He was an important historical figure then, and a leader who could be admired who really cared for his people. My condolences to the his family and may he RIP.

We were deeply honored to know and work with most revered, respected President Kenneth Kaunda. We stayed with at the home of Adelaide Tambo during Nelson Mandela’s 1994 inauguration. Among many world leaders who visited were President Julius Nyerere and his wife Maria. During that week we introduced Bernice King & Martin Luther King III, the children of Martin Luther King Jr and Coretta Scott King, & actors/activists Danny Glover & Alfre Woodard to KK. Together with him and ‘sis Adelaide we paid respects at the graveside of our beloved OR Tambo in Benoni. Whether walking the streets of Johannesburg or Harare, this humble giant of a man treated everyone with kindness. We could see how they adored him as much as we did. His legacy will live on as we commit to keep it alive now that he has crossed over to be with the great ancestors. Viva KK! With much love & gratitude, - Nadine & Jerry in Switzerland

I remember you from my history studies, I remember you we´re the leader that actually cared for his country. I wish more African and world leaders would be more willing to remember they are elected by their countrymen to do what is right as you did. Rest well Mr President
