CHAMPAIGN – Barbara L. Curl, age 81, of Champaign passed away at 7:05 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services in Champaign. She was born May 24, 1925, in Danville, the daughter of Sherman William and Elgia (DeVoss) Givens. Barbara married Ray S. Curl on Sept. 4, 1953, in Danville. He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1996. She is survived by one sister-in-law and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Bill and Gorman, two sisters, Pauline and Francis, and one infant child, Madell.
Barbara worked for Laughoff in Danville until Ray and she moved to St. Louis in 1968. She then worked as an administrative assistant at The Tire Mart in St. Louis for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and reading. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in St. Louis. Barbara was a prior member of the First Presbyterian Church in Danville.
A tribute to the life of Barbara Curl will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at Sunset's Community and Life Tribute Center, 3550 N. Vermilion St., in Danville (formerly Lakeside-Barrick Funeral Home), with Pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville.
Memorial donations may be made in Barbara's name to the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 5905 Lougheorough Ave., St. Louis, MO 63109.
