HOMER - Barbara Jean Phillips, 77, of Homer passed peacefully on Saturday (April 22, 2023) at 10:45 p.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital.
Barbara was born on Nov. 7, 1945, to Robert and Doris (Hillard) Allen of Homer. They preceded her in death. She is the oldest of five children, Don (Debbie) Allen of Fairmount, Jim (Crystal) Allen of Homer, Judy Allen-Ciulla of Urbana and Melinda Scheuneman (Jim Hamilton) of Newman. They all survive.
Barbara was a 1963 graduate of Homer High School. She married James Phillips of Sadorus on Sept. 5, 1964, and they have three children, Gina (Brad) Heinz of Clarmont, Fla., Jeff (Yandell) Phillips of Champaign and Jaime (Randy) Elam of Champaign, and they all survive. She was a doting grandmother to three grandchildren, C.J. Wilson, Courtney Reynolds and Ashley Phillips; and four great-grandchildren, who lit up her life.
Barb, aka Grandma Barbie, was a fun-loving, foxy lady. She was an avid shopper of Walmart, a frequent flyer to the salon for pedicures with her daughter, and world famous for her cheesy taters. She had a heart of gold and had the best laugh, and even though she always lived in Illinois, she was truly a Florida girl at heart. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Homer Funeral and Cremation Services, 708 S. Main St., Homer. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Heju Nam officiating. Burial will follow at GAR Cemetery, Homer.
Memorials may be made to St. Louis Children's Hospital research or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Sending my love to you all. Barb was a kind, thoughtful and accepting person. She reached out to me last year just to check in on me.

Prayers for Barb and Jim's family at this time. We were sorry to hear about Barb's passing. Always enjoyed seeing her at various events over the many years while our children were growing up and at fish fries. Prayers for safe travels and we know the Lord is holding you.
