URBANA - Derrol "Tiny" Halberstadt, 99, of Urbana passed away peacefully at home with his family on Thursday (Dec. 12, 2024).
Tiny devoted many years to the University of Illinois as a skilled electrician and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 601 for over 75 years. He was well known for his loving, proud and occasionally ornery nature. Tiny cherished his hobbies, which included fishing, traveling, spending quality time with his family and creating lasting memories with those he loved. His legacy as a spirited and dedicated individual will be remembered by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Werts) Halberstadt; parents, Russel and Irene Halberstadt; and brother Vernon Halberstadt.
He is survived by his children: daughter Diana (Sonny) Reynolds of Urbana, son Richard (Julia) Halberstadt of Mahomet and daughter Pamela (Jeffrey) Cross of Urbana; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his brother Robert Halberstadt of Champaign.
Services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with funeral services to follow at noon. Please join the family afterward at 2 p.m. at the IBEW Local 601 Hall (3301 Boardwalk Drive) for a celebration of Tiny's life. Private graveside services for the family will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens on Monday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m.
