MAHOMET - Eugene "Red" Anglin passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sept. 10, 2025.
Born on Oct. 19,1932, in Champaign, to Eugene and Grace Anglin, Red lived a life marked by devotion and generosity. He married his sweetheart, Myrna D. Primmer on April 15, 1952, in Covington, Ind. The young couple eloped at just 16 and 19 years old and in April, celebrated their remarkable 73rd wedding anniversary.
Shortly after marrying, Red enlisted in the Army, serving as a demolition specialist in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was deeply proud of his service to his country exemplified in the Korean beteran hat he wore with honor. After returning home, Red was employed by the Illinois Power Plant as a repair man and ending as an operating engineer. He then moved on to the UI Physical Plant, working in the steam distribution department until he retired in 1995. Working the midnight shift, Red would come home whistling, much to the irritation of his cranky neighbor, who could never understand his cheerful spirit! In addition to his full-time job, he also had a house-painting business on the side.
Red was very active in his community, serving in many roles at the First United Methodist Church, on the PTA board at Dr. Howard, and as a Boy Scout leader, despite not having a son. Fun-loving and kind, he was a wonderful husband, father and friend. Red never knew a stranger and was always ready to lend a hand, especially when it came to repairing cars.
Red and Myrna were very sociable, joining their friends on weekends to dance at the Elks, Moose or VFW. They also cherished family vacations in their RV, traveling along the East Coast and spending winters in Florida after retirement.
Red had a lifelong passion for weightlifting, working out with his childhood friend, David McKinney, from age 16-87. He made countless friendships at local gyms including Fitness Center, Omni, Body Firm, Gold's Gym, and Planet Fitness.
Red is survived by his wife, Myrna; daughters, Karen (David) Pasley, Peggy (Steve) Cler and Jennifer (Mark) Mueller; grandchildren, Shawn Pasley, Alex Cler, Andrew (Kelsey), Zachary and Thomas Mueller; and great-grandchild, Zaine Pasley.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge, 903 N. Dunlap Ave., Savoy on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the America Cancer Society at cancer.org as Red bravely fought and overcame several cancers.
