CHAMPAIGN - Gerald (Jerry) L. Vogel, 84, of Champaign went to be with the Lord on Monday (Dec. 12, 2022).
He was born on Aug. 30, 1938, in Deercreek. He was the son of Walter J. Vogel and Clara (Plattner) Vogel. He married Lois Steiner on Oct. 11, 1959, with whom he celebrated 60 years of life. She preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 2020. Also, preceding him in death were his loving parents.
He is remembered with love, by his children, Sarah Henrie and Julie Zuspann (Jeff). He was a proud "Papa" to Allison Krauser (Bradley), Alexa Zuspann, Kristen Henrie, Trent Zuspann and Brianna Zuspann. His greatest joy and fondest memories were spent with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his brother, Stanley (Nate) Vogel, nieces, nephews and other family members.
Jerry graduated from Cissna Park High School then worked locally before serving his country. He served in the Army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, and in Korea as a medic. This experience resulted in many lifelong friendships.
Following the conclusion of his service, he and Lois relocated to Champaign, where together, they built a successful real-estate business. Jerry also worked for Coca Cola, two bread companies and Meijer. After retirement, Jerry volunteered at Carle Foundation Hospital. Jerry was a member of the Apostolic Christian church. He showed Christ to others by always lending a helping hand, his extreme generosity and his selfless care for others. He always had a smile for everyone that would light up a room, a great sense of humor, a positive nature and a youthful spirit. He was a wonderful husband to his wife and an awesome father to his children. He never met a stranger; he was extremely hardworking, dependable, trustworthy, compassionate, physically strong, determined and humble. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved traveling with his family, tinkering in his garage and doing anything outside.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 18, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 South Philo Road, Urbana. The funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. at Apostolic Christian Church of Champaign, 1401 Devonshire Drive. Ministers of the church will be officiating. A visitation will precede the service from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Lunch will be served at the church, following the committal service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Harvest Call.

Jerry was a wonderful friend of my father, Harold Millage. They worked together at Sunbeam Purity Baking Company. He was just a constant positive life force. We respected his care for others and ability to work tirelessly. Jerry was a solid man with amazing Christ-like humility. The Millages loved him.
