CHAMPAIGN - Giadona "Dan" Mayfield Jr. of Champaign passed away peacefully at home on Thursday (Sept. 25, 2025).
Born on Sept. 15, 1937, in Louisville, Ky., to Giadona and Minnie Mayfield, he was the oldest of 11 children.
Dan is survived by his wife, Deloris; children, Ann Lesshaffett, Cheryl Cleaver, Alan (Cheryl), Melanie Edbrook, Greg Byars (Rebecca) and Jeff Byars (Michelle); 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His siblings Tom (Rose), Bill (Ruthie), Kenny (Evonne), Linda Pickard (Danny) and Brenda Sivori survive.
Dan was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, three sisters and two brothers.
Dan loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a skilled handyman and eagerly used his talents to help others. He was an avid woodworker and old-car enthusiast - his garage full of tools was evidence that he could make any repair.
Visitation will take place at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, Urbana, where Dan was a longtime member and deacon, on Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon, with services to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church or Carle Hospice. Condolences may be made at morganmemorialhome.com.
