Herbert Grindley

Herbert Dale Grindley Mahomet - Herbert Dale Grindley, 69, of Mahomet passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025. He leaves behind his wife of eight years, Julie Quivey, after a 25-year engagement that proved he never rushed into anything. Herb was born on Sept. 8, 1956, in Champaign, to Wanda and Herbert Grindley Jr. He is survived by his mother; daughters, Autumn (Naomi) Grindley-Ollive of Sadorus and Maggie (Ryan) Woodham of Monticello; and granddaughters, Addison and Vivian Woodham. He also leaves his sisters, Vickey Rodolph of Spokane, Wash., and Kathy Green of Foosland; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Herb spent his life working in the trades as a carpenter and construction superintendent, always forming strong, genuine connections with the people he worked with. He will be remembered by more friends than anyone could count. Herb was the life of the party, an endless storyteller, and a man who never met a stranger. With his love for music, catchy laugh and generous heart, he had a gift for making people smile wherever he went. His text messages were often puzzling but entertaining. He also loved to travel and was always ready for the next journey. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
