Howard Hackney Obituary

HOMER - Howard H. Hackney, 80, of Homer passed away at 11:25 p.m. Monday (Sept. 9, 2024) at home.

There will be a celebration of life Saturday, Sept. 14, at Charlie's Grub & Suds, Homer, from 3 to 6 p.m. All who knew Howard are invited to attend and have a slice of pizza and say, "Hi." Homer Funeral and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.

Howard was born July 2, 1944, in Champaign, the son of Irvin S. and Wilma Harmeson Hackney. He married Molly Lynne Clatterbuck on Sept. 9, 1966, in Oakwood. They just celebrated 58 years together.

Survivors include his wife, Molly of Homer; son, Terry (Mary Jo) Hackney of Wake Forest, N.C.; daughter, Sherry "Sheppy" Cler of Tolono; grandson, Hayden Hackney; sister, Joyce Farris of Gibson City; and granddog, Louie.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Lewman.

Howard retired from Colwell Systems after 23 years as a paper-cutter. He also worked at Casey's for 10 years making dough. Howard was a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the Marine Corps during Vietnam. Howard enjoyed fishing, riding around town in his golf cart and mostly sitting on his front porch waving to the passing cars.

The family would like to thank the people of Synergy, OSF Hospice and Homer United Methodist Church.

Memorials can be made to the Homer Fire Department or Homer Lake.
