CHAMPAIGN – Dr. Jimmy L. Shonkwiler, 63, of Champaign passed away at 11:44 p.m. Monday April 6, 2009, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home of Farmer City is handling the arrangements.
Dr. Shonkwiler was born Sept. 19, 1945, in Champaign, a son of Joseph W. and Hazel Helm Shonkwiler. He married Penny R. Huchel on June 20, 1988, in Mahomet. Dr. Shonkwiler retired in October 2007 from Eastern Illinois University as a budget director after many years.
Survivors include his wife, Penny Shonkwiler of Champaign;
a daughter, Shawn McLaughlin of Ottawa; two grandchildren, Declan McLaughlin and Lena McLaughlin, both of Ottawa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
