MONTICELLO - John J. Prater, 48, of Monticello passed away at 2:13 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 18, 2025) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
John was born on Feb. 27, 1977, in Lewistown, the son of Dave and Jan (Rohlfs) Prater. He married Alena Ornelas on Sept. 17, 2016, in Monticello.
John is survived by his wife, Alena Prater of Monticello; sons, Kody Prater of Mahomet, Jakob Prater of Oakley, Jackson Prater of Lewistown and Kolton Prater of Mansfield; and brother, Jim Prater of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
John worked as an insurance agent for Country Financial and was a member of the Monticello Golf Club. John loved golf, and he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Private family services will be held.
