RANTOUL - Lamar "Shorty" Baugher, loving husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday (Nov. 2, 2024) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1937, in Thurmont, Md. After the passing of his mother at the age of 13, he was placed into foster care. After finishing high school, he worked on his foster parent's farm. At 22 years old, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. After two years, he was transferred to Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, where he met his future wife, LouAnn Bergman. Shorty and LouAnn were married on March 29, 1964, settled in rural Rantoul and became parents to sons Lamar and Lance.
Shorty was employed at Kraft Foods in Champaign for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and helping his wife's parents, Elmer and Anna Bergman, on their family farm. He took great pride in his family, especially his granddaughters. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Rantoul and was unwavering in his faith in God.
Shorty is survived by his wife, LouAnn; sons, Lamar and Lance; granddaughters, Ashley and Elaina; younger sister, Dottie "Dot"; foster sisters, Lynne and Debbie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Amy (Morgan) Baugher; older sister, Polly; and older brothers, Irving "Pete," Paul, Richard and Ray.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the American Lutheran Church, Rantoul. The Rev. Deb Domeier will officiate. Burial will follow in Eden Park Cemetery, Rantoul. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the American Lutheran Church. Lux Memorial Chapel, Rantoul, is handling the arrangements.
