NEW ORLEANS, La. - Lauren Renee Fred, 39, of New Orleans, departed this life on Sept. 15, 2025.
She was born in Urbana on Oct. 4, 1985, to loving mother, Kris Tschappat, of New Orleans, formerly of Monticello and Champaign-Urbana, and adoring father, Mark Fred, of Monticello, formerly of Urbana.
Lauren enjoyed the first 20 years of her life in Urbana before taking off on her adventures. She was a person of high intellect, profound humor and endless creativity. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed the arts ever since she was a kid. She was well known for her unique style and stunning beauty wherever she was. She had a kind, compassionate, generous, independent spirit, and was a bit of a rebel determined to live life on her own terms. She loved finding thoughtful and delightful gifts to give. She loved her cats!! She loved the little things in life, and she loved NOLA.
She was an accomplished sous-chef in her 20s and loved cooking up a storm. She earned her bachelor's degree in english literature from the University of New Orleans. She was an entrepreneur running her own Airbnb property as well as managing others. Later she wanted to get into law, and was accepted into Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, but sadly was not able to complete this pursuit.
Lauren is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Melvin and Gerry Beadles and her paternal grandfather, William Fred.
Lauren is survived by her grieving parents; multiple siblings; and large extended family. Stepmom Geodee Fred; brother William Fred (Monticello); sisters, Hannah Tachappat (NOLA), Regan (David) Fred-Wolf (Fisher) and Chelsea Innocenti (Glen Ellyn); stepbrothers, Sean Grady (Normal) and Alex Grady (Chicago); and grandparents, Patricia and Mike Marlow (Champaign). She will be missed dearly by her aunts; uncles; cousins; little niece and nephew; and numerous friends from all over.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Scratching Post Cat Café, 114 E. University Ave., Champaign.
In lieu of flowers, donations for the cat shelter will be happily accepted in honor of Lauren.

I don't know how to say this right. Lauren was a good friend to me and my wife. I worked with her for several years. She rocked! The world is poorer with her passing. I wish I'd had the opportunity to see her one more time.
