Marillia Majercak Obituary

CHAMPAIGN - Marillia I. Majercak, 88, passed away at home Monday (Jan. 29, 2024).

She was born in Chicago and moved to the south suburbs. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert, on Sept. 11, 1954. They moved to Urbana in 1961 with their children and began their new business of running student houses. They also owned a little sandwich/ice cream shop on the corner of Goodwin and Nevada. In 1971, they bought Mr. Steak Restaurant and continued to run that business until it closed in 1996.

Marillia was a member of Twin City Bible Church in Urbana for 60 years. She served on many committees. Just to name a few: teaching Sunday school, serving on the Shepherding Council for over 30 years and began the prayer chain back in the 1970s and continued to serve on that team until she was unable to do so.

Marillia's passion was her family and caring for them, her church and church family, and her love for fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; sister, Lucille Kats; son, Robert Jr. (Nancy); daughter, Raewyn (Joe); son-in-law, Mark; six grandchildren, Robert III, Sarah (Chris), Ben (Randi), Renee (James), Noel and Reva; and eight great-grandchildren, Julie, Christopher, Ty, Dimitri, Jacob, Banner, Kail and Zane.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and her youngest daughter, Renee Ilean Zitnik.

Celebration memorial services will be held at Twin City Bible Church, 806 W. Michigan Ave., Urbana, on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at noon.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be offered at morganememorialhome.com.

My deepest condolences to the whole Majercak family. Marillia was one of the most genuine and caring person I´ve ever known. She had a ginormous heart and faith to match. Helped me personally through some pretty tough times. We´ve all lost someone very special.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Mrs. "M"! As we fondly referred to her at Mr. Steak Restaurant many years ago. Her beautiful bright light shines within the hearts of all that knew her and continues to as she's with her family that passed before her. It is my hope that you all are held in divine love and compassion to ease the pain of the loss you feel.

Oh Majercak family. I´m sure there are so many holes in your hearts! Marillia was always so warm and welcoming. She was so loving towards my husband when he came from Egypt. He loved her and how she made him feel in his new home and country. We grieve with you and with hope.
