MAHOMET - Mary E. Scott, 72, of Mahomet, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday (Nov. 9, 2023) surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on April 28, 1951, in Champaign. She married John Scott on Jan. 18, 1969. Mary was a loving, caring and exceptional individual who was known for her strong family orientation and giving nature. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her husband, John Scott, and two daughters, Kimberly (Shannon) Wygant and Alicia Scott. She was also a beloved grandmother to Correy (Katie) Wygant, Cameron Wygant, Zach (Bailey) Wygant, Lakricia (Ryan) West, Sabryn Scott, Hailee Evens, Faith Evens and Kiara Evens; and great-grandmother to Kendyl, Carter, Camden, Noah, Liam, Hunter, Maddox, Boston, Beckham and Emersyn. She is also survived by a sister, Christine Randall; two brothers-in-law, William (Michele) Scott and Richard Ford; many nieces and nephews; and her lifelong best friend, Brenda Kinkade.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Kathryn Woodruff; three brothers, Bud, Richard and Dan; sister, Mary-Jane; mother-in-law, Joyce Scott; father-in-law, William Scott; and sister-in-law, Kitty Ford.
Throughout her career, Mary worked at Lil' Porgy's for over 10 years, started her own home day care and later retired from Walmart. She was dedicated and diligent in her work, leaving a lasting impact on those she served. Mary was a pillar of the community and actively contributed to various causes. She started "cool kids" arcade, soup kitchen and Little is Much food pantry, demonstrating her selflessness and commitment to helping others. Her most prized accomplishment was taking care of, supporting and watching her family grow and succeed throughout her years.
Our beloved mother and grandmother was a remarkable woman who opened her arms and heart to everyone she met. She fought many battles over the years and did so with grace and compassion for others. She adored her family and loved each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely. She enjoyed spending time with her family and watching all of them grow up. She especially enjoyed giving the little ones Hershey chocolate bars any chance she could to sweeten up their day. Her loving spirit is unmatched and will be greatly missed.
In accordance with Mary's wishes, she will be cremated, and friends may greet the family at a visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, with a memorial service immediately following at 4 p.m. Interment will be private.
We thank the OSF ICU hospital staff for their kindness and sympathy during her final moments with us. We especially want to thank Dr. Broman, Dr. Hajal and nurse practitioner Carol along with her nursing staff Nadir, Hunter, George, Justin and Kalista. This is a great loss felt by all, most of which her family, who loved her deeply. Our hearts are broken, but we know this is not a goodbye but a see you later.
